This SI timeline lists the main US federal actions on artificial intelligence, now officially called "Super Intelligence" or SI, from January 2025 to October 2026, with the date of each document and a link to the official source. The short version: the administration revoked the previous AI executive order in January 2025, published America's AI Action Plan in July 2025, launched the Genesis Mission in November 2025, sent Congress a national AI framework in March 2026, issued an AI security order in June 2026, and on September 29, 2026 ordered agencies to say "Super Intelligence" instead of "AI."

This is a living page. We add entries when new documents appear on WhiteHouse.gov or in the Federal Register, and we change the "Last updated" date whenever we revise it. Last checked: October 5, 2026.

How we built this SI timeline

Every entry comes from WhiteHouse.gov, FederalRegister.gov or, for Genesis Mission updates, Energy.gov. Executive orders show both the signing date and the Federal Register publication date, because they differ by several days. Entries are limited to federal actions primarily about AI or that directly shape it; this is not a complete list of every document that mentions AI. Documents signed before September 29, 2026 use "AI"; we keep their original wording in titles.

Upcoming dates to watch

  • Around November 24, 2026: the first annual Genesis Mission report from the Energy Secretary is due, one year after EO 14363.
  • Around November 28, 2026: the President's science adviser's proposed legislative language defining "Super Intelligence" is due, 60 days after EO 14434.

These are our own counts from the dates in each order. We will add entries when the documents are published.

Patterns in the timeline

Reading the documents in order shows a few consistent threads, described in the documents' own terms:

  • Deregulation and national standards. Starting with EO 14179 and continuing through EO 14365 and the March 2026 framework, the administration's stated aim is a "minimally burdensome" national approach, including limits on state AI laws.
  • Infrastructure and energy. Data center permitting in July 2025 and the Ratepayer Protection Pledge in March 2026 focus on building computing capacity while addressing electricity costs.
  • Science and security. The Genesis Mission and EO 14409 focus on using AI for research and on defending systems against AI-enabled cyber threats.
  • Terminology. Until September 29, 2026, every document used "AI." Since then, new federal documents use "SI." See what SI means and SI vs AI for businesses.

How this connects to the frontier labs

Federal policy runs alongside fast change at the labs. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI, the makers of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, all released major models in 2026, and independent groups such as METR and Epoch AI track their capabilities. For the lab side of the story, see has AGI been achieved and Anthropic's call to pace the frontier.
